How the Hunting Trip Checklist & Gear Planner Works
This tool builds a packing checklist for a hunting or fishing trip. You choose your activity first, and the questions change to fit it.
For hunting, it asks:
- The type of hunt: deer, waterfowl, turkey, small game, or general
- Whether it is a day trip or overnight
- The conditions you expect: cold, mild, or wet
- The terrain: woods, open field, or wetland
For fishing, it asks about freshwater or saltwater, whether you will fish from shore, a boat, or a kayak, what you are targeting, and how long you will be out. Your checklist is grouped into clothing, gear, safety, food and water, and documents. Choosing a boat or kayak adds a life jacket. Overnight trips add extra food, and overnight hunts also add shelter and sleeping gear.
You also get a loadout order that keeps safety items and your license easy to reach. Print it or save it as a PDF. This checklist does not cover hunting or fishing rules. Confirm your licenses, tags, and season dates with your state wildlife agency before you go.
